The North Dakota Department of Commerce has initiated the Relocation Opportunity for Outstanding Talent Grant Program (ROOT) to assist businesses in attracting and retaining skilled workers through relocation incentives.

"North Dakota employers are facing critical workforce shortages, and the ROOT program is designed to bridge that gap," said Commerce Workforce Director Katie Ralston Howe. "By supporting relocation efforts, we're ensuring businesses can grow while strengthening our communities."

Employers participating in the program must match relocation incentives, such as hiring bonuses, licensing fees, or moving expenses. Funding will be available until all allocated resources are exhausted. The funds will be released after an employee relocates and completes their first pay period. Employers are required to retain employees for at least one year; otherwise, they may have to reimburse a prorated amount if an employee leaves voluntarily before this period.

Applications will be processed in the order they are received. Priority will be given to businesses that demonstrate critical vacancies, feasible relocation plans, and the ability to provide matching funds.
