Cass County hosted its Annual Spelling Bee on Friday, featuring 47 students from ten schools. The event concluded with Chaitanya Gopi and Sophia Lequin emerging as the top two spellers. They will advance to the State Spelling Bee scheduled for March 17, 2025, at the Bismarck Event Center in Bismarck.

Chaitanya Gopi, a fifth grader from Dakota Montessori School, claimed first place. Sophia Lequin, a sixth grader from Cheney Middle School, secured second place after a head-to-head competition against Adair Enz, also a sixth grader from Ben Franklin Middle School.

The competition began with a written session to identify finalists for the spell-off round. Twelve students with the highest scores progressed to this final stage to compete for the chance to represent Cass County at the state level.

Each county in North Dakota is permitted to send two representatives to vie for the state title. The winner of this contest will have the opportunity to participate in the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.
