Senator Cramer has announced that the University of North Dakota’s (UND) Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC) has been granted $4,200,000 for the development of commercially-viable hydrogen cell technology. An unnamed researcher from the EERC highlighted the potential impact of the project, stating, "Through this project, researchers could potentially lower the required operating temperature of O-SOECs, improving cell and stack durability, and enabling the use of less costly steel alloys for system construction without sacrificing efficiency."

This funding comes in addition to the $925 million previously awarded to EERC by the Department of Energy (DOE) for their Heartland H2 Hub in collaboration with Marathon Petroleum, TC Energy, and Xcel Energy. Senator Cramer played a significant role in supporting EERC's funding efforts, as evidenced by his statement, "Last year, Senator Cramer submitted a letter of support for EERC’s application on behalf of Heartland Hydrogen Hub (HH2H) LLC to secure funding from the DOE’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations to establish the hub."

The financial support provided to UND's EERC underscores the importance of advancing research in hydrogen cell technology and highlights the ongoing efforts to promote sustainable energy solutions.
