WASHINGTON – In a concerted effort, Senator John Hoeven and several colleagues have urged the Biden administration to enhance U.S. agricultural exports and bolster the competitiveness of American products on the global market.

"We expect trade to fluctuate in response to macroeconomic factors and market conditions," wrote the senators in a joint letter addressed to U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. The senators expressed concerns over the decline in U.S. agricultural exports, attributing it to an unambitious U.S. trade strategy that fails to expand market access or reduce trade barriers effectively.

The letter, also signed by Senators Marsha Blackburn, Ted Budd, Kevin Cramer, and others, emphasized the importance of international trade for the success of U.S. agriculture. It highlighted the significant impact of diminishing access to foreign agricultural markets on American workers, farmers, and ranchers.

The senators called on the Biden administration to analyze the relationship between U.S. competitiveness in foreign agricultural markets and negotiated trade provisions. They stressed that a continued decline in agricultural exports is preventable and unacceptable, urging immediate action to reverse this trend.
